Frequently Asked Questions

How to I sign up?

Visit my Class Schedule page. All scheduled classes will be listed, with clear buttons for each class to take you directly to the online registration for that class.

How long are the classes?

In-person classes are 3½ hours; online classes are 1 to 1½ hours.

Should I eat before class?

You should have a small snack before class, but save your appetite because all my cooking classes come with a full meal! The meal might be a bit later than you are used to eating, which is why I suggest a small snack ahead of time.

How many people are in a class?

In-person classes accommodate 14 participants.

Do you make accommodations for allergies and specialized diets?

Special diets: Most of my classes can accommodate most specialized diets. I offer many vegetarian classes; most (but not all) of the classes that aren’t vegetarian can accommodate a vegetarian participant. Ditto if you are on a gluten-free diet. Please contact me at least 72 hours ahead of time to discuss your desired class and its suitability for your dietary needs.

Allergens: All of my classes are clearly marked if they contain a common anaphylactic allergen — please see class descriptions for details on which allergens might be present. Please note you assume all risk in taking a class with a known allergen; I cannot guarantee no cross-contamination.

What happens if I need to cancel?

For in-person classes, refunds are issued up to 48 hours before class start. Within 48 of the class start, a refund will only be issued if your spot can be filled.

For online classes, refunds are issued up to 24 hours before the class start.

No-shows forfeit the price of the class, but a recipe booklet can be sent to them if they choose.

What should I wear?

Comfortable clothing, comfortable close-toed shoes, and hair ties for long hair. We will be on our feet, possibly getting a little messy. Aprons will be provided.

Are the cooking classes demonstration or hands-on? If they are hands-on, do we cook alone or in teams?

I offer a variety of class formats. Most of my classes are hands-on, but start with a detailed cooking demonstration of about 45 minutes. You will then work in a team of 2 to cook your recipes.

Classes at House of Boateng are demonstration, with a few opportunities for hands-on participation.

I don’t see any classes listed. Will you still be teaching?

At certain times of year, the class schedule will appear empty, with no cooking classes listed. This happens mostly in the summer, which is blocked off for other work or for family vacations. There are always more classes coming; check back in a week or two!

Do you offer gift certificates?

Yes! They cost $109 plus GST per person for in-person public classes, and $25 plus GST per person for an online class. Please contact me to make arrangements.

Do you offer private cooking classes?

Yes! I offer private cooking classes, either for a family event, a special celebration, or a work-based team experience.

Private classes can be held in a rented kitchen space, a private home, or over Zoom. Most dietary restrictions can be accommodated.

Visit my Private Cooking Class page for pricing and details. If you would like to book, contact me to discuss.
