My custom pendant by Kelly Allanson Jewelry arrive

My custom pendant by Kelly Allanson Jewelry arrived yesterday! She made this beauty from a blister pearled oyster shell my younger son found on the beaches of Cortes Island during one of our many family camping trips there.

I love it. To give you some idea of how much work and design know-how Kelly put into this pendant, I'll let you know that the oyster shell was at least six times bigger and the pearl was angled very differently. She managed to capture the essence of a West Coast oyster shell while keeping the blister pearl intact, and wrapping only enough silver to enhance its beauty

Every time I wear this, I will be reminded of our wonderful summer trips to Cortes, and of that day on the beach in particular. My then 8-year-old son was determined to find a pearl as we walked over a thick spread of discarded oyster shells at low tide. And it didn't take him long! Almost as if he manifested the pearl with his determination. Or it was meant to be. Either way, I have long wanted the shell to be shaped into a memorable piece of jewelry, and @kellyallanson delivered. Thank you!

Gluten-free Banana Chocolate Chip muffins. . . made on a whim this evening.

My oldest son is trying a #glutenfree diet for a month to see if it helps with some digestive issues. In true Mom fashion, I had to make sure he had some treats.

I didn't have a recipe, just used my basic banana bread formula, swapping @bobsredmill
1:1 Gluten Free Flour for the all purpose flour I normally use. It turned out really well, if I do say so myself.

Here is the recipe I used, if you want to try it:

Gluten free Banana Chocolate Muffins

1-3/4 cup 1:1 gluten free flour
1-1/2 tsp baking powder*
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp fine sea salt

3 large bananas, mashed
1/2 cup butter, melted & cooled a bit
2 eggs, beaten
2/3 cup light brown sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract

1 cup chocolate chips*
1 to 2 Tablespoons white sugar

*NOTE: for true celiacs, make sure to use GF baking powder and GF chocolate

Preheat oven to 350 F / 180 C. Grease a 12 cup muffin tin.

Whisk the dry ingredients together in a medium bowl. In a separate bowl, mix together the banana, eggs, butter, sugar, and vanilla.

Stir the dry ingredients into the wet, mixing well (no need to worry about gluten development!). Stir in the chocolate chips. Scoop mixture into prepared muffin tin, filling the cups almost all the way. Sprinkle muffin tops with white sugar.

Place in preheated oven and bake for 20 to 25 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool for 2 minutes in the tin before removing muffins to s cooling rack.
