Early fall garden tour with Nana. The simple beauty of the ripening squash, the dahlias, the late roses, the fruit laden branches, and the drying beans hanging on their vines brings me so much joy.

I think of the coming fall harvest, and the abundance of summer, and the awe that a perfect rose can evoke. The smells are changing, yet summer still lingers.

September might well be my favourite month, not just because it's my birthday month. The overlap of summer and fall is the best. Warm sunny days; cool sweater-needing evenings; the summer crops like tomatoes, peaches, corn are still going strong; the fall pumpkins and apples are starting to show up. We can look forward to cozy days and soup for dinner, while still enjoying summer drinks on the patio and the last few swims at the lake.

We used garden vegetables, buffalo milk cheeses from @coleman_meadows_farm , fruity olive oil, and peaches from my mom's tree to create these beauties for our family. Swipe left to see some of the different pizzas we made.

I highly recommend getting a ceramic pizza oven if you can. They are inexpensive and fit right on your barbecue. They can be used to make naan as well!

A few of our summer adventures so far.

I just had two weeks off and was out of internet range at least half the time. I didn't do much cooking, and definitely nothing "productive," but I did spend time with many people I care about and had a number of outdoorsy adventures.
🌲.
From a four day wilderness camping trip with my children, to leisurely time at the lakehouse, to a boat trip to a small island with beachy exploration, to mornings spent in my garden, it's been a lovely kick off to the summer.

I will post some more food photos and recipes at some point, but for now I'm enjoying the moments as they come.
